The traffic crash at the southern end, about Mile Marker 63, of the Long Key Bridge on Tuesday caused some damage to the bridge. The impact gouged the bridge surface with such force that it dislodged some concrete exposing some of the bridge’s reinforcing steel. The process to obtain a qualified contractor to make the necessary repairs is being expedited. Meanwhile, until repairs are completed, FDOT has reduced the speed limit to 25 MPH for 2,000 feet on either side of the accident site. Speed will be reduced in 10 MPH increments from the posted 45 MPH to the 25 MPH zone. As soon as repairs are completed, a public announcement will be made and the speed limit will be returned to 45 MPH.
