Saint Columba Episcopal Church, in conjunction with Celtic Heritage Productions, Inc., brings a brand new event to Marathon, FL: “The Florida Keys Celtic Festival.”  The Celts “invade” Marathon Community Park (located at MM 49) on Friday 1/10/14, 4pm-9pm and Saturday 1/11/14, 8am-6pm.  The festival features six outstanding Celtic bands, including Scottish headliner Albannach, international supergroup Rathkeltair, Marcille Wallis & Friends with the Tampa Bay Treblemaker Dancers, West of Galway and a special 20th Reunion Appearance of Celtic rock pioneers Clan na Gael.  St. Andrew’s Pipe Band of Miami will fill the air with the sounds of bagpipes and drums; Highland Athletics and Border Collie Sheep Herding Demonstrations along with a Children’s Glen round out the entertainment activities.  Celtic merchandise vendors, Celtic & local food fare, a Tea Tent and cold draft beer provide an authentic menu to please the palate.  The Florida Keys Celtic Festival is a family-friendly event; children aged 12 and under will be admitted free in the company of a paid adult.

Since 1955, St. Columba Episcopal Church of Marathon has been an island home for Middle Keys residents and visitors alike.  Its namesake, the missionary St. Columba, brought the gospel to the 6th-century Celtic world; in like fashion, the parish of St. Columba Episcopal Church is known for its community outreach with Hammock House (a free-after school program and multiple free summer camps), second language classes, Al-Anon sponsorship, and support of KAIR and the Independence Cay homeless shelter.  Proceeds from the Florida Keys Celtic Festival will help support these programs.

Sponsorship opportunities are available; contact Sarah Brawer at sarahinthekeys@yahoo.com or call 305-304-6794.  Sponsors will be recognized at a special reception, which includes a whisky tasting, on Thursday, 1/9/2014.
